How to delete pages from a PDF, and how to get them back
Removing pages writes a new document containing everything you did not select. The pages that stay are copied across untouched, so nothing is re-encoded and quality is unaffected.
Your original file is never modified. That is worth knowing before you start, because it means a mistake costs nothing — the source document is still sitting on your device exactly as it was.
Removing, or keeping?
Pick whichever needs fewer clicks. Dropping four pages from a fifty-page report is a removal. Pulling four pages out of that report is an extraction. Same result, very different amount of selecting — and the more pages you have to tick, the more likely one is wrong.
Check before you save
- Page numbers printed on the page often disagree with the PDF's own numbering, because covers and contents pages are rarely numbered.
- Work from the thumbnails rather than from a list of numbers. It is much harder to misread a picture of the page.
- Double-sided scans put the back of each sheet on its own page. Removing a page often means removing two.
- Check the pages either side of each gap once you are done, not the whole document.
What removal does not do
Deleting a page removes its content from the document, but anything else pointing at it does not update itself. Links aimed at a deleted page stop working, and a table of contents will still list it. If the document is going somewhere formal, read the contents page afterwards.

Can I get the removed pages back?
Not from the new file — but your original is never modified, so just re-upload it and start again.
Does removing pages make the file smaller?
Usually, and sometimes dramatically — a scanned page can be a megabyte on its own. Text-only pages are small, so removing a few of those changes little.
Can I remove pages from a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is locked. Remove the password first, then edit the unlocked copy.
Is the removed content really gone from the file?
Yes. The pages are not carried into the new document, so there is nothing left behind to recover. That is different from covering something with a black box, which leaves the content in place.
