Finding what changed between two versions
Comparing two PDFs means lining up their text and reporting where they diverge. It answers the question that matters when someone returns a contract or a draft: what is different from the version I sent?
Why reading both is not enough
The changes that matter are rarely the visible ones. A deleted "not", a date moved by a month, a figure with a digit changed — these survive a careful read because you see what you expect to see. A comparison does not get bored on page forty.
What it can and cannot see
- Text changes — added, removed and altered wording — are found reliably.
- Reordered paragraphs usually show as a deletion in one place and an addition in another, which is accurate but reads oddly.
- Formatting changes with identical wording may not register, because the text is the same.
- Scanned pages cannot be compared, since neither file contains text to compare.
Getting a clean comparison
Compare like with like. Two exports of the same document compare cleanly; an original against a printed-and-rescanned copy does not, because the second has no text in it. If one side is a scan, run OCR on it first or the result is meaningless.
Both documents stay on your device. That matters more here than almost anywhere else on the site — the files people most want to compare are contracts and agreements, which are exactly the files you should not be uploading to a stranger's server.

Questions people ask
Does it work on scanned documents?
No — scans have no text to compare. Both files need real, selectable text.
Can it compare two versions with different page counts?
Yes. Inserted or deleted pages show up as large additions or removals, which is usually exactly what you wanted to know.
Does it detect changes to images?
The comparison is text-based, so a swapped image with unchanged wording around it may not be flagged. Check images by eye.
Are both files uploaded anywhere?
No. Both documents are read and compared in your browser, on your device, and neither leaves it.
